New Spirit Airlines Prints Released
Detroit Aviation Photography has added several new Spirit Airlines collector prints to the lineup, including another limited edition release featuring N604NK — a photo that now carries a much deeper story than it did the day it was captured.
Photographed on September 26, 2025, N604NK represents a moment from the final era of Spirit Airlines before the airline ceased operations on May 2, 2026. What was once another bold yellow Airbus arrival has now become part of the closing chapter of one of the most recognizable airline brands in America. For collectors, Spirit fans, and anyone who appreciates aviation history, this is the kind of image that only becomes more meaningful with time.
Also now available are two special Spirit liveries, including aircraft that brought some extra personality to the skies. Spirit was never a quiet airline visually, and these special schemes are perfect examples of that. Bright, bold, different, and impossible to ignore — exactly what made Spirit stand out.
A Short Look Back at Spirit Airlines
Spirit Airlines had a history that reached back decades before the bright yellow aircraft became familiar across the country. The company began as a Michigan-based charter operation before adopting the Spirit Airlines name in 1992 and growing into one of the best-known ultra-low-cost carriers in the United States. Spirit became famous for its low fares, no-frills pricing model, and unmistakable yellow aircraft that were easy to spot from a mile away.
Over the years, Spirit served cities across the United States, the Caribbean, and Latin America, building a reputation as an airline people definitely had opinions about — but also one that made air travel possible for millions of budget-minded travelers. Love it or hate it, Spirit made an impact. It had personality. It had attitude. And for aviation photographers, it had aircraft that absolutely popped against almost any background.
That is part of what makes these prints special now. They are not just photos of airplanes. They are pieces of a chapter that has closed.

I also want to take a moment to recognize the people behind the airline.
To the pilots, flight attendants, mechanics, ramp crews, gate agents, dispatchers, customer service teams, cleaners, operations staff, and everyone else who wore the Spirit name — thank you.
Airlines are more than aircraft and logos. They are people. They are early mornings, late nights, weather delays, maintenance calls, full flights, tough passengers, tight turns, and long days most of us never see from the outside. Spirit’s employees kept those yellow aircraft moving for years, and many of us who photographed, flew on, watched, or collected the airline’s history appreciate the work that went into it.
These prints are also a small way to remember the people who helped make Spirit what it was.
Website Updates Are Happening Daily
The Detroit Aviation Photography website is being updated daily with new pages, new content, new print listings, and new collector-focused features. Some days the progress is big. Some days it may look a little slower from the outside.
Right now, I am the only one building and maintaining the site — gathering content, editing images, writing descriptions, working through HTML and CSS, organizing galleries, preparing print pages, and handling everyday life at the same time. So if things move a little slowly here and there, that is why.
But the work is happening, and the site is getting better every day.
The current goal is to launch the Monthly Giveaway section by mid-June, featuring a chance to win a 13x19 aviation print and helping bring more people into the Detroit Aviation Photography community.
